Carol & Darryl

Carol and I arrived at The Highlands in the summer of 2022. We’re snowbirds (actually, rainbirds) from Friday Harbor WA. Friday Harbor is the largest town on the San Juan Islands, an archipelago of 200 islands 70 miles north of Seattle. Friday Harbor is a one-hour ferry ride from the mainland and its population is about 7,000. Friday Harbor is a real town with several banks, a movie theater, restaurants, grocery stores, and a bowling alley. We even have a courthouse and a jail. I’ve never seen the inside.

Carol and I met in 2002 and we were married in 2008. Carol grew up in Redmond WA and I grew up in San Jose CA. We both spent many decades in Seattle.

We’re both retired. Carol worked as a life insurance underwriter. I started out in the construction and real estate business and switched careers midlife as an investment advisor.

Carol is a graduate from the Cornish College of The Arts in Seattle where she majored in music. She writes beautiful music and is a beautiful performer. (Says Darryl who is writing this.) I graduated from San Jose State College with a useless degree, Poly Sci.

Carol has a daughter who lives in Amsterdam with her husband. This gives us an excuse to go to Europe about every other year. This September we’re headed there again with a four-day stop in Iceland.

Darryl has no children, hence I’m able to afford this lavish event.
